The
Assemblies of God School of Theology has a rich history that dates
from 1948. It was instituted and first led by the Rev. Magnus
Udd in the Mudi area of Blantyre. It shifted and rested at Dowa
only for a semester and then went and found its long stay at Mcheneka,
in Dedza District. Rev. Morris Williams and many other missionaries
worked tirelessly to bring it to a point of national recognition.
In 1964 it changed name from Nyasaland Bible Institute to Assemblies
of God Bible Institute. This name was later changed to the present
one during the 1980’s. Rev. Newberry picked the reins of
leadership in 1972 and passed on to the Rev. Dr. Chakwera in 1994.
The leadership further changed hands in 2001 when the present
Principal, Rev. Enson Mbilikile Lwesya took over the reins.
The
school has grown in its influence and impact from being one of
the smallest to becoming the largest theological institution in
the nation. The Mission emphasis has steadily increased since
the early nineties to the point that every facet expresses this
philosophy and purpose. Since 1993 the Assemblies of God School
of Theology changed campuses from Dedza and is now nestled on
a ten-acre property in the heart of Lilongwe.
The
institution boasts of one of the most modern facilities among
other institutions both in Malawi and Africa, this property has
been a gift from the Rev. Daniel T. Sheaffer of Crossroads Cathedral,
Oklahoma, America. From its inception the school is governed by
a Board of Trustees instituted by the Assemblies of God in Malawi.
