COURSE DESCRIPTION

BIBLE DIVISIONS

BL 1013 New Testament Survey

This course introduces a panoramic survey of the New Testament including the Life of Christ, the rise of the early church, the life and teachings of Paul and the remaining books of the New Testament.

BL 1023 Old Testament Survey

A survey of the entire Old Testament from the beginnings of man thought the rise and fall of the kingdom of Israel and the prophets.

BL 1032 Life of Christ

A study of the life of Christ from the point of view of the Synoptic Gospels--Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. The course helps the student grasp the chronological progression and the spiritual significance of the events of Christ’s life.

BL 1043 Pentateuch

A study of the first five books of the Bible with a close look at the beginnings and development of the chosen nation of Israel as they were trained and prepared to enter the Promised Land.

BL 1053 Acts

The missionary advance of the church in the world through the power and anointing of the Holy Spirit is shown. This course analyzes the major reasons for the growth of the church.

BL 1063 Hermeneutics

Hermeneutics is the science and art of discovering the meaning of Scripture. In this course the student will learn how to apply these principles and rules as he interprets Scripture.


BL 1073 Old Testament Historical Books

An interpretive survey of the historical books of the Old Testament. This course covers the books of Joshua through Esther.

BL 1083 Galatians and Romans

It is an interpretive survey of Paul’s letters to the Galatians and the Romans. This course investigates the background material and key theological issues.

BL 1103 Gospel of John

This is an analytical study of the Gospel of John including the life, character and ministry of Jesus Christ.

BL 1113 Corinthians

Beginning with a study of the exegetical method, this course gives an in-depth, methodological approach to 1 Corinthians, problem by problem. An overview of 2 Corinthians is also given.

BL 1132/3 Themes of the Major Prophets

The Major Prophets, Isaiah, Jeremiah, and Ezekiel, are investigated. The student gains an understanding of which these men were, why God called them, what their messages were, and how to apply these messages to contemporary life.

BL 1163 Minor Prophets

This is a study of the twelve Minor Prophets covering contributions as seen in the light of their times and ours.

BL 1173 Hebrews

An analytical and topical study of the work of Christ in the context of the book of Hebrews.

BL 1182 Genesis

An interpretive study of Genesis with emphasis on showing the meaning and divine purpose of the major happenings and personages of the book.

 

 

BL 1212 Daniel and Revelation

A study of the biblical prophecy which concerns events of the end-time. The course helps provide a better understanding of biblical prophecy. The Second Coming of Jesus Christ is the central theme of the course.

BL 1244 Greek I

An introduction to the fundamentals and grammar of the Greek New Testament.

BL 1254 Greek II

Continues the study in basic elements of the grammar of the Greek New Testament. Concepts essential to translation and exegesis are presented.

BL 1284 Hebrew I

This course includes basic Hebrew vocabulary, elements of grammar and simple syntactical formations. It will enable the student to read, understand and translate simplified biblical prose.

BL 1294 Hebrew II

This course continues the study of Hebrew vocabulary, grammar and syntax

 

THEOLOGY DIVISION

 

TH 2012 The Bible and the Church

This course is a basic study of bibliology and ecclesiology. The student investigates the nature and authority of the Scriptures and the biblical basis for the church.

TH 2002 Theology Proper/Angelology

It is a study of the biblical doctrines of God and angels. The study will learn about the nature and purposes of God as well and the nature and work of angels both good and evil.

TH 2033 Pneumatology

A biblical study of the person, work, gifts, and ministry of the Holy Spirit as thought in both the Old and New Testaments. Special attention is given to the biblical teaching concerning the baptism in the Holy Spirit and the Spirit-filled life.

TH 2043 Christology

This course introduces the student to the Old Testament typology as well as the prophecies concerning Christ’s present and future work. The student discovers what the scriptures teach about the person, nature, and work of Jesus Christ.

TH 2053 Soteriology

This course investigates the biblical doctrine of salvation. Included are studies on the doctrines of repentance, faith, conversion, regeneration, justification, adoption, sanctification and prayer in the life of the Christian.

TH 2062 Man and Sin

This course looks at the biblical doctrines of anthropology and hamartiology. It emphasizes such doctrines as the origins of man and sin, the natures of man and sin, and the consequences of man’s fall and sinful activity.

TH 2073 Eschatology

This course is that emphasizes what the Scriptures teach about the end times. It investigates the time and order of end-time events and their importance and relation to contemporary Christian life.

TH 2093 Old Testament Biblical Theology

This course takes each of the main doctrines of the Bible, such as God, creation, man, sin, the Messiah, revelation, inspiration, angels, Satan, the covenants, judgment, and life after death, and traces their development book by book in the Old Testament

TH 2223 Apologetics

A study in the relationship of faith and reason. Applications are make to the concepts of God, the Word, and Christian experience.

 

 

 

 


CHURCH MINISTRIES DIVISION


MN 3012 Evangelism Today

The student will study the biblical principles and modern techniques of effective evangelism. Examples will show how basic methods of evangelism may be used in various cultures.

MN 3023 A Strategy for Church Growth

The course deals with the spiritual, cultural and social dynamics of church growth. The student will learn how to make a diagnostic study of a local church and discover the causes of its growth or lack of growth.

MN 3032 The Bible and Missions

A biblical study about the missionary task of the church focusing on world evangelism and discipleship.

MN 3042 Principles of Preaching

An introduction to the spiritual and practical techniques of sermon preparation and delivery. Various types of sermons are investigated.

MN 3052/3 The Church’s Educational Task

This course examines what the Bible has to say about such concepts as teaching, training and religious instruction. In general, the course discusses the church’s role and responsibility to train and instruct its members and families in the Word of God.

MN 3082/3 The Work of the Pastor

This course examines the relationships that are vital to a successful ministry and reviews the pastor’s primary responsibilities. Such subjects as church leadership, discipline, and worship are addressed.

MN 3092 Church Business

This course is an introductory study of many of the principles and procedures used in today’s business world as they apply to the local church and its leadership.

 

MN 3112 Expository Preaching

This is a practical course in the methodology of expository preaching. It emphasizes the step-by-step process of creating biblically based sermons.

MN 3132 Introduction to Missions
The Bible’s teaching on missions is outlines through the use of both the Old and New
Testaments. Two missions themes are treated throughout the study: the redemptive people of God and Christ’s strategy for missions.

MN 3143 Teaching in the Church

A theologically based, creative approach to teaching is presented which draws from the best modern ideas of teaching and learning. The theory is then applied to practice with varying age groups in the church.

MN 3152 Christian Counseling

A paraprofessional approach to Christian counseling is presented. A method of counseling called “agape therapy” is presented. This course is not a theoretical approach; rather it is a means to practical Christian counseling.

MN 3162 Islam: Introduction and Approach

This course is an introductory study of Islam, including its beliefs, practices, and present status as a world religion. It offers practical guidelines for effective Christian witness to Muslims.

MN 3172/3 The Worship of God

This course gives a clear understanding of Christian worship as directed by the Holy Spirit. It discusses the necessity, value, and results of worship and presents biblical models of worship.

MN 3183 Christian Education Leadership

An in-depth study of the general principles of administration and management and their relationship to the task of the local church, with particular emphasis on the development of a proper program of Christian education.

MN 3193 Introduction to Church Music

This course begins with a study of the biblical purposes of church music. It also deals with the function of music in church practice and outreach.


MN 3203 Pastoral Counseling

It is a basic course in pastoral counseling with a strong biblical orientation. The student will study and practice such techniques as listening, interviewing, bringing correction, and marriage and family counseling.

MN 3233 Human Relations

The theme of love, or agape, is examined and applied to many kinds of human relationships. Agape is first experiences when one meets God, and then it is applied to other relationships of human experience.

MN 3242 A Survey of Modern Missions

This course focuses on the nature of mission’s efforts since 1945. Recognition is given to the strategy of the Holy Spirit in granting revival for equipping and guiding the Church in its on-going mission worldwide. This is seen particularly in the Pentecostal outpouring of this century.

MN 3913 Power Encounter

The tremendous success of the New Testament church can be attributed in large part to the fact that it moved in supernatural power, with signs following. More and more contemporary church leaders are asking the question, “how can we have this same power and success in the church today?” This course is designed to answer that question. It is a practical “how to” course for power ministry.


GENERAL EDUCATION DIVISION

 

GE 4013 Introductory English

This course is a fundamental study of English grammar. It will help you increase your speaking and writing skills. It presents the basics of language such as parts of speech, theses, sentences and punctuation

GE 4022 Writing Better English

Covers the fundamentals not discussed in Introductory English and looks at the forms an English sentence may take. It also shows how these various forms can be applied to writing. The course shows how to organize sentences into effective paragraphs. Also presented is outlining, research, report, and summary writing.

GE 4023 English Composition

This course is designed to help the student learn to write more effectively. It is an analytic and synthetic study of the skills necessary to write in the English level at the college level.

GE 4033 Introduction to Psychology

An introduction to the field of psychology as it relates to human behavior. This study will help your understanding of values and relationships in the Body of Christ.

GE 4042 Foundations for Health

It is a study of the principles of health and hygiene. The theme of the course is illness prevention. It examines such themes as nutrition, immunization, environmental hygiene, and other methods of disease control. The course includes instruction on basic first aid for emergency situations.

GE 4053 How to Speak in Public

This course is designed to increase your awareness of the importance of speech to the ministry. The course deals with speech, the speaker, and resources available to the speaker, and the audience.

GE 4064 General Physical Science

This is a study of the planet we live on, the natural resources it produces, and the contribution science has made in discovering and utilizing these resources.

GE 4073 Introduction to Sociology

Gives an introduction to a general survey about the nature and scope of man and society including basic sociological methods and concepts.

GE 4072/3 People and their Beliefs

This course surveys 10 of the prominent leading religions of the world. It treats the origins, development, tenets, and literature of each in the light of Christian concepts.

GE 4113 Educational Psychology

This deals with an application of psychological principles to the design and guidance of educational experiences. This course is designed to provide the tools necessary to make the teaching-learning process effective.


GE 4122/3 Fundamentals of Music

A study of the value and function of music as an avenue of human expression and ministry within the church is emphasized. The basic concepts of melody, musical style systems, major and minor tonality, rhythm, and harmony are presented. The course emphasizes the use of music to glorify God.

GE 4133 Introduction to Literature

This course is a study of several genre of literature by selected authors of acknowledged classics. Techniques of inquiry and response are utilized to lead to the understanding of literature.
GE 4152 Principles of Teaching

In this course the student studies the methods that Jesus used and learns how to follow His example. It is designed for teachers and lay people involved in teaching in the church and the school.

GE 4163 Business Math

This course applies the use of functional arithmetic operations to business including banking and insurance. The use of percents in sales, taxes, payroll, merchandising, interest, and depreciation are included.

GE 4182 Guidelines for Leadership

This course provides students with a contemporary theology of Christian leadership. It discusses leadership theory, presents servant hood leadership as a model for Christian leaders, discusses biblical principles of leadership and describes the major functions of leadership.

GE 4253 Cross-Cultural Communications

This course attempts to help the student discover answers to problems in communicating across cultures. It is designed to help the cross-cultural missionary in his task of reaching people of a different culture than himself.

GE 4262/3 Principles of Journalism

This course is designed to help the student develop the ability to write as an extension of Christian ministry. It covers the areas of church bulletins, news writing, tracts and articles for publication.

 

GE 4273 Introduction to Computers and Educational Technology

This course provides a survey of computers and foundations knowledge of computer science. Application to informational retrieval via computers is emphasized along with techniques of education technology application and delivery systems.

GE 43303 Western Civilization to 1500

This course acquaints the student with a survey of Western civilization from the pre-literal beginnings in Mesopotamia to the Renaissance. The relationship of the church and state in Western civilization is examined.

GE 4313 Western Civilization After 1500

This course acquaints the student with the philosophical, economic, social, and political development of Western civilization from the Protestant Reformation to the present.

GE 4342 The Church: Pentecost to the Reformation

This is an introductory study of Christianity from its birth to the beginnings of the Reformation. The lessons enable the student to apply insights from the past to contemporary situations.

GE 4352 The Church: Reformation to the Present

An introductory study of the history of Christianity from the Reformation in the sixteenth century to the present day, the lessons are structured to enable the student to apply insights learned from the pastor to contemporary situations.
